Splendor Plant AB is the largest wholesale nursery in the Nordic region, known within the industry for its leading role in product and assortment development. The company has around 120 employees, its own sales and purchasing organization, in-house distribution, and partnerships with haulers and logistics providers. The facilities in Svanshall and Bläsinge cover a combined 83 hectares, where plants are cultivated either in containers or open fields.
Founded in 1961 by Berta and Gustav Andersen, who established Ödåkra nursery AB, the business grew with the involvement of their sons, Bo, Sven, and Nils, who worked on the nursery growing perennials and conifers alongside sales. In the early 2000s, the brothers took on a proactive approach to product development, introducing innovations like new plant varieties, large perennial specimens, and Splendor Ready Hedge®.
“It was around this time we began incorporating Bara Clay into our peat-based growing substrates. We aimed to bind and buffer nutrients in the soil, increase the CEC, and ensure even water distribution,” says Nils Andersen, CEO of Splendor Plant AB. “The clay provided excellent results, and over the past 20 years, we have used approximately 1,750 tons of Bara Clay.”
